Local retailers and organizations also are cashing in on the historic event by selling everything from T-Manolo Blahnik Silk Pump in Purple and pins to sculpted busts of the president-elect.At Urban Outlet in DeSoto Square mall, owner Kathy Lyons has found oversized Obama T-shirts to be a hit with men and special order petite tank tops sprinkled with Manolo Blahnik Something Black Satin Pump to appeal to woman.”It’s a big hit,” Lyons said. “I went through five cases since the election.” The cases of merchandise also included Obama hats until they recently sold out.Employee Donovan Williams said he believes the merchandise is popular because fans of the president-elect want to show their support.”It’s sold to all ages, all races,” Williams said. “They all love it.”Artists in the Village of the Arts are trying to capitalize on the Manolo Blahnik Silk Sandals in Wood Grain with sculpted busts of Obama.Real estate investor Richard O’Brien paired up with artists Helene Himes and Pedro Cobian to create and sell the plaster likenesses. They come in white, pewter or bronze, and weigh about 12 pounds.”We were so excited after the victory, that we thought it would be a nice idea to commission our artists to do a life-size bust statute of Obama,” O’Brien said.O’Brien admits the price point of $100-$130 has been a tough sell in this economy. Of the 15 made, none have been Manolo Blahnik Something Apricot Satin Pump.”We’ll be putting it up on eBay to see where they go,” O’Brien said.And newspapers, too, are selling commemorative Nov. 5 issues and publishing special publications.McClatchy Tribune, which owns the Bradenton Herald, is selling a 144-page hard-cover book for $27.95 that includes all 30 newspapers’ front pages from the day following the election.
